2016 Marketing Calendar for Cell Phone Shop Owners

It’s that time of year again when we set our sights on planning for this new year.

How was 2015 for your cell phone shop? Did you meet your expectations? Did you make the money you wanted? Did you add the processes that would help you do more?

For most cell shop owners, this is slow season. Meaning there is no better time than now to start looking ahead and planning to make the most of 2016. Let’s start by looking at your 2016 business marketing calendar. Owners who spend time developing a marketing calendar report feeling more in control. What is a marketing calendar? It is a high-level document that includes key promotional dates, expected busy periods, and things you want to focus on during the typically less busy times.

Depending on where you are in the country, you may see some slight variation, but typically, cell shops tend to be less busy during January and February and pick up as the year progresses. You’ll want to be aware about when the new phones from major manufacturers will be launched, which include Samsung’s Galaxy devices and Apple's iPhone, of course.

Super Bowl Sunday, Valentine's Day, Mother’s Day, Back to School, Black Friday, Christmas, and Boxing Week. If you're like most cell shop owners, you have these important dates flagged, but these dates always seem to sneak up on you. Before you know it, it’s Valentine's Day and you haven’t much time to get organized. Marketing and selling is a process, not an event.

Take the time now and look forward. What are the systems that you will need and when? What things do you need to prepare for the marketing events you will engage in? Will you need flyers and banners? Will you need additional inventory? How much additional cash will it require?

In addition to adding dates to the calendar, also give some thoughts to how you will communicate these events with your customers. How will you inform them of your upcoming events? Successful owners collect email addresses, use in-store techniques, and even use postal mail to keep their best customers close.

Are you sending emails and newsletters to your customers, collecting emails addresses at your point of sale, and sending thank you post cards? Each interaction, including those that occur outside of your establishment, strengthens your relationship and allows you to plant the seeds of future sales.

This kind of planning shouldn’t take much time. Start with a quick 12-month activity calendar. We’ve included a general marketing calendar to help you get started (download your calendar here).

Lastly, you are your most important asset. Please remember to make the time to take care of yourself. Include regular exercise and breaks in your schedule to recover. No one can do it for you, and you will need mental and physical health to reach your goals this year.
